Tsunami is student conference and values student participation. There are several ways to get involved and new opportunities to get involved are being developed. A few ways students can be involved are listed below. Watch the web site for more ways.

  • Ministry/service projects
  • Student participation slots in the general sessions
  • Video submissions
  • Outstanding student nominations
  • Tsunami choir

If you are leading a group at Tsunami, your best way to get involved is to invest in your students. Tsunami exists to help the local church. Other than that, Tsunami does use over 100 volunteers. Email you interest to tsunami@csbc.com.

Each year the speakers, worship leaders, and bands are chosen by several criteria. First, they must have a track record of walking with Christ and showing evidence of a living relationship with Him. Second, they must have a message that fits with the theme and purpose of that year. Third, Tsunami does try to reflect a diversity of message, style, and background from year to year.

There is a full explanation of the theme on the theme page of the web site. In short, students will learn how Jesus Christ is more than enough for their ever need whether their lives are blessed by worldly standards or not.

In general, Tsunami is a discipleship and evangelism training conference. The conference provides a variety of options for students at all levels of Christian maturity.

  • Unchurched and nonChristian students will be comfortable in a concert like setting and there will many opportunities for them to hear and respond to the salvation message.
  • Younger Christians will be inspired by the speakers, the worship and the breakout sessions (hot topics).
  • More mature Christian students will be challenged in their growth through ministry and mission opportunities and through more intensive breakout sessions.

  • Most people think of a Tsunami as a large wave. This generation of students could be the largest generation in history. Because of their outward focus, we believe that this generation could be the largest wave of students serving God ever! So the real Tsunami is “God’s wave of student involvement.”
  • Physical tsunamis are caused by a movement of the earth (and earthquake or volcano). The spiritual Tsunami is caused by a movement of God within this generation.
  • Tsunami’s travel across the ocean unseen until they come in contact with land. The friction with the land causes the wave to rise. As this generation of student servants comes in contact with their culture, the friction will cause them to rise up in response.
  • When a tsunami hits land, the landscape changes. When this generation is unleashed as God’s Tsunami, the landscape of our culture and our churches will be changed, only this time, for the better.

There are several reasons why a rooming list is important. First, it confirms to the hotel that you won’t be a no-show. Second, it helps the hotel switchboard to direct calls to the proper rooms. Third, if a student loses a key, the front desk will not issue a new key to the student unless their name is on a rooming list.

You have two options. First, you can download the printable registration form and fax/mail/email it in. It will allow you to reserve rooms without names. Second, you can provide temporary names ("First Baptist" or your own name) in each slot. Later, as you get your sign ups, you can change the names.

The hotel reservation site deals mainly with business conventions where each individual pays separately. The system isn't set to handle nameless rooms. Also, hotels want to have names to help confirm that the reservation is real, especially when a group is reserving multiple rooms.

Tsunami is working on off site bus parking. Information will be available online as soon as it is confirmed.

Every hotel is an excellent hotel with excellent value. Every hotel is also in walking distance. Which hotel is better is just a matter of personal preference.

Yes you can, but only in your hotel rooms.

No, these are business class hotels and do not come with a continental breakfast?

Each hotel has a different rate for parking. Check with your hotel after you receive your confirmation to determine your parking rate.

No, you can stay anywhere you like, but you are guaranteed the lowest rates at these business class hotels.

No, you don't need to log in, but if you log in, you can leave comments, make suggestions and interact with others through the web site.

No, but Tsunami would like a list on site so that we can identify students if they get separated from their group. The form for the on site list will be available on the web site before the conference.

No, a student has to pre-register before December 1 AND attend the conference to get the T-shirt.

No, but Tsunami does allow churches to transfer deposits. In other words, if one church drops two students and another church needs to add two students, the leaders can buy/sell the registrations. That way the first church doesn’t lose the deposit and the second church may get a cheaper registration.

The Tsunami Team purchases materials and space based on the anticipated attendance. If a group decides to cancel, it is usually after materials have been purchased or other anticipated budget has been allocated. The $20 deposit helps cover those costs. For this reason the deposit is not refundable.

Tsunami is actually a good value compared to similar conferences, but it still costs a lot of money to put on the conference. Most of the money goes into Convention Center rental, AV support in the general sessions, and conference materials, like the T-shirt. Very little money is used for administrative costs. In fact, the Cooperative Program (the missions giving system that Southern Baptists use) covers much of the administrative cost.

There are two advantages to registering early. First, the cost of the conference will go up as the conference draws nearer. If you register in August or September, the cost is only $65 per person. On October 1, the cost goes up to $69 per person. Once the online registration closes down on December 17, the cost will go up to $74 for on-site registration. Second, seats in the General session will be blocked into sections. Groups that register earliest will be seated in front and center in groups that register later will be seated in the back into the sides.
